  • Requires 100 - 60 µL of whole or anticoagulated blood

  • The blood should be fully oxygenated

  • Blood should be well suspended

  • Enter hematocrit or hemoglobin value into the instrument software

  • Place glass slides on Bili-4 sample slide

  • Transfer 20 to 30 µL of blood into the reagent kit (Figure 1)

  • Seal the kit, gently mix the blood, then set aside

  • Transfer 15 µL or whole or anticoagulated blood to the WHOLE BLOOD position slide (Figure 2)

  • Transfer 15 µL blood from the reagent kit to the BLOOD + REAGENT position slide (Figure 3)

  • Click the MEASURE button in the software (Figure 4)
    • The samples are drawn into the instrument
    • Results are reported in 8 seconds

  • Record the results

  • Dispose of the glass slides and pipette tips

At present, the bilirubin hematofluorometer has not received FDA approval. Guidelines for its use have not been accepted. The instrument is available for research purposes only.
